Department of Geography, Geoinformatics and Regional Development

Faculty of Natural Sciences and Informatics, Constantine the Philosopher University in Nitra

Geography as a separate subject of study was established at the Department of Natural Sciences, Pedagogic Institute in 1959. In 1960 Department of Mathematics, Physics and Geography was established and in 1962 separate Department of Geography was established. In 1973 it became a common part of the Department of History, Geography and Civic Education. In 1987 it was a part of the Department of History and Geography. The start of a qualitatively new period for the department came in 1991 when a separate Department of Geography was established. From 5 December 2004 until 31 December 2021, the name of the department was Department of Geography and Regional Development FNS CPU in Nitra. From 1 January 2022, the department was renamed to Department of Geography, Geoinformatics and Regional Development, Faculty of Natural Sciences and Informatics, Constantine the Philospher University in Nitra, reflecting current modern trends in geography or the scientific orientation of some of the employees of the department.
