Implementation of Destination Management in the Nitra Region

Abstract

The aim of this paper is to identify the key players in tourism at the regional and micro-regional level in Slovakia, particularly in terms of Nitra region, and analyse their activities, organisational structure and financing. Furthermore, based on the data obtained, the aim is to compare the functions the organisations in question perform in the development of tourism at the respective levels, with the roles of management destination organisations in practice. The chosen research subjects are those that conduct their activities on the territory of Slovakia and Nitra Self-governing Region and can be considered a destination management organisation. The selected entities in Nitra region are predominantly associations, and focus mainly on marketing activities, event preparation and realisation and obtaining resources to support tourism in the territory in question. Their activities are funded by membership fees, grants, donations, 2% share of the income tax and other. As the most prevalent barriers in their work, the associations identified the lack of funding for their activities and the lack of skilled manpower.
