Orientation As a Tool of Recognising of Local Landscape: Case Study of the Zobor Hills

Abstract
The paper deals with an innovative form of teaching the local landscape. For the case study was chosen the area of “Zobor hills”, where the orientation run was realized as a new form of field teaching of geography. Realized activities are also designed for supporting the cross-subject activities. Activities were focused on the orientation in the field by working with a map, using a compass and GPS, solving logical tasks and knowledge tasks relating to the local landscape. To solve these tasks information boards of the educational trail “Zobor hills” and local tourist signs were helpful. The aim of this paper is to show the importance of field teaching and getting to know the local landscape. The result is a proposal of orientation run with elements of geographic walks with examples of possible tasks and exercises that students must complete during the route. The paper can serve as an inspiration for elementary and secondary school teachers for teaching the local landscape by active and enjoyable way.
