Abstract
The Danube Region Strategy, as one of four European Union MacroRegional Strategies tends to better co-operation management in the Danube basin. The Strategy unites 14 countries, out of which nine are EU Member States. And while the other 4 are not part of the Union, this co-operation usually helps to hasten their integration into European structures. This article aims to introduce the EU Macro-Regional Strategies, their place within European Territorial Cooperation and also within the EU Cohesion Policy because European Territorial Co-operation is one of two EU Cohesion Policy goals for the 2014 – 2020 programming period. However, we will pay special attention to the Danube Region Strategy which we will also review through the chosen socio-economic indices.
