Abstract

The aim of the paper is the characteristics and analysis of deployment of the significant private companies focused on geographic information technologies (GIT) in Slovakia. These significant private GIT companies were chosen based on the two criteria of having at least 10 employees and being in the business at least for five years. Moreover, they were analyzed and characterized from the viewpoint of their localization, description of their activities and profits/losses for the last four years. The results of the analysis showed that the total number of significant private GIT companies with the chosen criteria is 15 (20 with branches). Most of the GIT companies is localized in the Bratislava Self-governing Region (40%). The information gained in this paper are particularly interesting for graduates of geography/geoinformatics study programs and their future practice.
