Abstract

The issue of implementing sustainable development (SD) on a local level is a very current, and the support of the city development has become an essential topic of international, European and national discussions. Cities also play the leading role in solving global challenges and in fulfilling 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) of the 2030 Agenda. Several cities in Germany have created their SD strategies in the past few years, based on the SDGs. These documents considerably contribute to the support of sustainable and resilient cities. In the article, we analyse the content of selected publications and SD strategies of selected cities in Germany. The results of the content analysis give an overview of the theoretical knowledge and current experience in the area of creating and implementing SD strategies at the local level in Germany. The summarised information could be used as an inspiration and guideline for the Slovak cities, in planning and managing their development according to the SD concept.
