Abstract
The diversification measures are becoming a part of agricultural policies in the whole world and in this respect the European Union (the EU) is not an exception. The EU is aware of the importance of agriculture for rural economy and therefore it decided to support this sector by means of rural development programmes. The objective of the paper was to theoretically evaluate the concept of diversification in the agricultural sector and to present the possibilities of diversification in a selected agricultural entity using the example of good practice from Slovakia. As a good practice example we used the agrotourism facility “Agropenzión Adam” in the municipality of Podkylava owned by the company TBS, a.s. Stará Turá. It is an agricultural entity, which began to diversify its activities thanks to European funds. The entity used the possibilities offered within the pre-accession programme SAPARD and all the subsequent Slovak Republic rural development programmes in the periods 2004-2006, 2007-2013 and 2014-2020. On the basis of field research we can conclude that the diversification activities of the monitored entity into non-agricultural activities have a significant impact both on the development of local economy as well as the whole region.
