Abstract

According to the UNWTO (2017), that tourism is rightly considered a major branch of the world economy and therefore needs to be addressed from a political, legislative but also professional point of view. For a long time, tourism, as a scientific department, lacked a sufficient academic background, intertwined with planning, recreation, geography, economics, transport and other sectors. Many renowned authors recommend using a more balanced approach by creating more methodologically refined articles on research with appropriate statistical techniques based on strong theoretical principles. The aim of this trend is for tourism to develop as a recognized branch of science. In the article we present a brief overview of new methodological procedures, taking into account the protection and preservation of the natural and cultural potential of the landscape. Travel restrictions related to the COVID-19 pandemic have decimated the tourism industry, which is one of the most important sectors of the European economy. The crisis should be seen as an opportunity to modernize tourism in the EU so that it is greener and more socially responsible in the future.

Keywords: sustainable tourism, greener tourism, development of methodologies, socially responsible tourism, geographical aspect, quantification of the landscape supply
