Abstract
The aim deal with the historical development and current state of the sugar industry in the Czech Republic. At the beginning there is a characteristics of the sugar beet followed by analysis of the natural conditions for its cultivation and defining the agricultural production areas, especially beet growing areas. Following chapters focus on the general history of sugar production and the history of the use of sugar beet for sugar production. The main part of the article is devoted to the historical development of the sugar industry in Czech Republic, which is divided into several historical time periods and continues to the current state as it is now. The end of the article aims on the evaluation of the impacts of the Common Agricultural Policy of the EU and the possibilities of further development in sugar industry in Czech Republic. In the thesis there are also information obtained from semi-structured interviews with the crucial representatives in the Czech sugar industry.
