Abstract

The article deals with the assessment of critical sites of the established ecological network in the landscape and their classification into categories based on the same features in terms of morphology, existing anthropogenic barriers, landscape structure and the degree of anthropogenic pressure. In total, 26 critical sites were included in the assessment, located not only directly in the White Carpathians Mountain range on the border of the Czech Republic and Slovakia, but also in their immediate vicinity, to capture potential migration corridors that provide the connection between this mountain range and the surrounding mountains. The set of critical sites was examined in the framework of 9 basic characteristics, based on which it was possible to identify a total of five basic types of critical sites that show related values of the evaluated characteristics. It is anticipated that this evaluation will allow the identification of potential measures to improve landscape connectivity in these locations.
