Szirmay Park – Living: Classroom Measures to Mitigate the Climate Change Implemented in the Area of ZŠsMŠ Rakovec nad Ondavou

Abstract

Primary school with nursery school, Rakovec nad Ondavou 2, is a fully organized nine-year school, located in the local Szirmay Park near the mansion. In our school education program, we place emphasis on getting to know the Slovak language as well as the native region in Regional education, protection and creation of the environment in Environmental education, basic mathematical knowledge and the teaching of the English language from the first grade. We teach Regional education as a separate subject with a time allowance of one hour per week in the third and eighth grade. The time allowance for Environmental education is one hour per week in the third, fourth, sixth and eighth grade. We try to link the individual activities implemented in the educational process to specific components of the country. With the support of the Ministry of Education, Science, Research and Sport of the Slovak Republic and foundations, we built a living environment classroom in the Szirmay Park. In 2022, with the support of the Environmental Green Education Fund, Živica, the VSE Foundation, the Carpathian Foundation, we managed to take measures to mitigate climate change implemented in the area of ZŠsMŠ Rakovec nad Ondavou - Szirmay Park. We also used the attractiveness of the Szirmay park to place an apiary house and a beekeeping educational trail.
