Abstract
Water management objects have traditionally been a pillar of the economy and social development. Therefore, the state took an interest in having these objects recorded and mapped in relevant maps and registers. The aim of this paper is the evaluation of the records of water management objects on old topographic maps with regard to their occurrence in individual time horizons, the continuity of the objects' operation, their concentration according to selected aspects, the typology of the objects, including the evaluation of the potential of the data set and map outputs for research in specific locations of interest. A total of 18,548 water management objects were recorded on the studied maps in the territory of today's Czech Republic. The largest number of buildings were found here in the middle of the 19th century, the least in the middle of the 20th century. Most often, these were water-powered objects, followed by waterworks objects. This analysis shows that out of the total number of 18,544 objects, continuity was recorded for 1939, i.e. 10% of the mapped objects occurred on all the mappings used.
