A New Approach to Assessing the Degree of Landscape Fragmentation by Transport Infrastructure – A Case Study of the Moravian-Slovak Border Region

Abstract

The paper presents a new computational model for assessing the degree of landscape fragmentation by transport infrastructure at the level of states or regions, which, unlike the existing procedures, can take into account the different passability of different types of roads and railways and at the same time can take into account the implementation of defragmentation measures (in the form of migration objects) on the most important transport routes. As a case study, the workflow of the new calculation is applied to the border area between Moravia and Slovakia, including a comparison of the calculation results of the new and original methodology.
