Abstract

Political geography deals with the power structure of the world resulting from the efforts of states to fulfill their geopolitical goals. The power of powers comes from the given economic and military power, influential ideology and culture. Geopolitics is essentially a permanent activity of great powers aimed at changing the power structure of the world. The aim of the political-geographical contribution, which addresses the relationship between political, economic and socio-cultural phenomena and processes, is not only to present the natural phased social shift from the industrial era to the post-industrial era, but also to clearly document past developments with an indication of a possible change of the geopolitical center from the current Euro-American Atlantic region to the Eastern Pacific. We illustrate this by the characteristics of the new and growing economic grouping BRICS. For African and Latin American countries that are considering membership in BRICS in the future, the market, which represents an area of 42 % of the global population, is also becoming an attraction. The countries of the political West, especially the United States and the European Union, will probably be forced to reconsider their model of cooperation with these countries in order to avoid losing these countries as important partners in the world order in the future.
