Abstract
Geography is one of the subjects that helps students better understand the world in which they live. It is not just about learning about distant countries and continents, it's also about understanding one's immediate environment, such as one's own community, region and country. It is the local landscape that plays a key role in building students' relationship with the environment in which they grow up. The geography textbook is a basic tool that can be not only a source of facts, but also a guide to discovering the local landscape. The aim of this paper is to provide a synthesis of knowledge about textbook creation dedicated to the geography of the local landscape. We will focus primarily on those created at the Department of Geography, Geoinformatics, and Regional Development of the Faculty of Natural Sciences and Informatics at CPU in Nitra (Slovakia) after 2000. In the analysis of local landscape geography textbooks, we emphasize their characteristics, functions, structural components, and the structure of the textbooks themselves. Specific attention is paid in these textbooks to the application of innovative approaches to geography education (e.g., tasks using selected websites, statistical databases, or web applications).
