Abstract
There are 6 wine-growing regions in Slovakia, the warmest of which is the South Slovak wine-growing region. This area is situated in the Danube lowlands north of the Danube River. Its position within the wine-growing areas is notable not only for its location but also for its size. With eight wine-growing districts, the South-Slovak wine-growing region is the third largest wine-growing region. There are also 132 wine-growing municipalities in these eight wine-growing regions. The largest number of wine-growing municipalities is in the Galanta wine-growing region (22) and the smallest number in the Palárikovo wine-growing region (8). In 2022, the area of registered vineyards in the South Slovak wine-growing region was 4 782 ha. We have observed a decrease in the area of vineyards in this wine-growing area during the monitoring years 2004 – 2022. As of 2023, 127 producers of wine products were established in the study area, which is the second highest number among all wine-growing areas in Slovakia. Limited liability companies have the highest representation in terms of the legal form of entities, with a total of 61, followed by 56 natural persons, 7 cooperatives and 3 joint-stock companies.
