Abstract
Digital terrain modeling has become vital for the accurate mapping and structural characterization of anthropogenic landforms, surpassing the observational limits of traditional geomorphological mapping. The article is devoted to obtaining a 3D relief model of selected anthropogenic relief forms (sludge pond, quarry) using the photogrammetric method Structure from Motion. We present a method of using such a method as well as a comparison with other options for obtaining 3D models – their advantages and disadvantages. Structure from Motion in conjunction with the use of modern drones is a powerful tool for obtaining not only an accurate relief model but also a detailed orthorectified image. The resulting digital elevation model in tiff format is also widely usable in the entire range of GIS software that geographers have at their disposal today. The results of our work demonstrate not only that the used photogrammetric method is capable of achieving comparable accuracy to LIDAR data, but also that, thanks to its high resolution (in our case 4 cm), it has added value in the form of identifying those landforms that LIDAR smoothes at a higher resolution.
