Spatial Temperature Differences at Various Locations in the City of Nitra

Abstract

The city, as a component of the cultural landscape, can be perceived as an open and dynamic system whose development is conditioned by the relationship between natural processes, urban structure, and human activity. These relationships lead to the continuous transformation of the spatial organization of the territory. Using the example of the city of Nitra, we evaluated spatial temperature differences in six locations. The analysis was based on data from monitoring stations collected between 1 November 2024 and 31 October 2025, covering temperature measurements in six time intervals during day. For each monitoring location, within a 200 m buffer around the station, we determined the proportion of built-up, permeable, and impermeable surfaces based on land-use patterns. Each monitoring station was classified into a local climate zone within the city of Nitra, and the results indicate differences in the thermal regime of the urban environment. The temperature patterns observed during the evaluated period highlight the influence of urban structure, degree of built-up area, and vegetation cover at the individual locations. The aim of the paper is to point out temperature differences in relation to landscape cover and in terms of the proportion of vegetation at the evaluated locations within the climatic zones of the city of Nitra over a period of one year.
