Abstract

The South Slovakia Wine-Growing Region is one of Slovakia’s major wine-growing regions, characterized by favorable natural conditions for growing grapes and a rich winemaking tradition. The aim of this study was to analyze the South Slovakia wine-growing region through field research in the context of viticulture, winemaking, and wine tourism. The results of the questionnaire survey highlighted the diverse structure of wine-producing entities in terms of vineyard area and year of establishment. Wine sales by wineries are primarily directed at private customers and businesses, with a significant portion of production sold in wine shops or directly at the winery. Wineries consider wine tourism an important tool for promoting their wines and building brand awareness. The most common activities include wine tastings, participation in wine festivals, and promoting wineries through social media. The research also identified several barriers to the development of wine tourism, particularly the region’s inadequate infrastructure and lack of government support, as well as weak cooperation among wineries and insufficient marketing support. Respondents also expressed interest in more intensive cooperation within wine routes and winemakers’ associations, which could help increase the region’s appeal and support the further development of wine tourism.
