Abstract

Flood risk represents a significant factor influencing spatial planning, particularly in areas with intensive industrial development. The aim of this paper is to assess the potential threat to planned industrial zones in the vicinity of the Hron River and the town of Žiar nad Hronom under a simulated 100-year flood discharge Q100 (980 m³/s). The research focuses on the territory of the Banská Bystrica Region, specifically on the cadastral areas of Dolná Trnávka, Horné Opatovce, Ladomer, Lovča, Vieska, and Žiar nad Hronom. Hydrodynamic modelling was carried out using the MIKE+ software in combination with a digital elevation model (DEM) DMR 5.0 with a spatial resolution of 1 m. The modelling was performed in a 2D environment using an unstructured triangular mesh and calibrated using Manning’s roughness coefficient. The findings indicate a high level of flood risk and highlight the necessity of incorporating hydrological risks into the process of spatial and urban planning.
